Assessment & Accountability

Kentucky's assessment and accountability systems provide information about how districts, schools, and the state are meeting the needs of Kentucky's diverse student population.

Highlights of HCS 2023-2024 Accountability Results

Hopkins County Schools has released its results from the 2023-2024 Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) and accountability ratings, showcasing a variety of achievements across elementary, middle, and high schools. These results reflect our district's commitment to academic growth, school climate improvement, and preparing students for future success.

The Kentucky Department of Education uses the KSA to assess student performance and categorize schools based on their overall scores, leading to classifications in federal categories and other indicators such as reading and mathematics performance, postsecondary readiness, and graduation rates.

Here is a summary of key results from our schools:

  • Elementary Schools in our district performed exceptionally well, with multiple schools earning a Green rating, signifying strong overall performance. Hanson Elementary School, in particular, received a Blue rating with a notable Overall Score of 90.8, and top-tier performance in both Reading and Mathematics (91.7) and Science, Social Studies & Writing (90.5).

  • Middle Schools across Hopkins County experienced varied results in the 2023-2024 assessment with an overall rating of Yellow. While challenges remain in the core academic subjects of Reading and Mathematics, there is clear progress being made in classrooms across the district. The district is committed to providing additional support to help our middle schools continue on their path to success, ensuring students are fully equipped for future academic challenges.

  • High Schools showed solid postsecondary readiness and graduation rates. The overall rating for the high schools is Yellow. Hopkins County Central High School achieved a 96.2% four-year cohort graduation rate, demonstrating success in preparing students for life after high school. Meanwhile, Madisonville North Hopkins High School earned an Overall Score of 78.1, Green rating, and an impressive Postsecondary Readiness score of 94.5.

A significant achievement for Hopkins County Schools this year is that no schools were identified as needing Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI), Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI), or Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI). Last year, two schools were identified as TSI. This accomplishment reflects the district’s focused efforts on supporting our most at-risk and underrepresented student populations. By directing resources and providing targeted support to these groups, we have made strides in closing achievement gaps and ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all students. This success highlights the district's ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Statement from Superintendent Amy Smith: "Our schools continue to demonstrate resilience and commitment to improving student outcomes across all levels. The 2023-2024 results provide us with valuable insight into where we excel and where we need to focus our efforts. With these results, we will continue to support our students, teachers, and staff in their pursuit of excellence and ensure that every student in Hopkins County is on the path to success to be Future Ready."
