FRYSC Mission

To enhance students’ ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote:

  • Early learning and successful transition to school
  • Academic achievement and well-being
  • Graduation and transition into adult life.

The primary goal of the Family Resource Youth Service Centers is to remove non-academic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success. Each center offers programs and services determined by the needs of their population.

What is the role of a FRYSC Coordinator?

The role of a Family Resource Youth Service Center (FRYSC) Coordinator is to support students, staff and families by working with the community to eliminate non-cognitive barriers to learning. They gear their services to support the “whole child.” This includes academics, mental health and physical health, financial literacy, real-world skills, positive relationships with peers and families, counseling services and so much more. They provide programs that offer parents and guardians support, as well as training for school staff on how to best meet the needs of our students in order to increase their success in the classroom and in life.

There is a common misconception that our FRYSC are only in our schools to provide school supplies and holiday assistance to families in need. While those are very important aspects of their jobs, they help in so many other ways. FRYSC are trained to support all students in the building, serving as members on each school’s leadership team. They play a huge role in preparations for the beginning of the school year, ensuring a smooth transition into the building. Throughout the year, they work with school staff to plan family engagement activities that focus on everything from literacy to drug prevention and awareness to planning family meals on a budget.

The FRYSC extend their services to families/carefivers through parent programs, holiday assistance and providing them with connects to dozens of community resources in Hopkins County. FRYSC are also actively seeking support and involvement from staff, students, families and the community. Bringing all stakeholders to the table allows our FRYSC to better meet the needs of our students, families and community.
