Traceable Communications

Traceable Communications (SB 181)

Traceable communications between students and teachers, school employees, and school volunteers is now required under a law passed by the Kentucky General Assembly (KRS 160.145). You may have heard this referred to as SB 181. The primary goal of this legislation is to protect students from potential inappropriate interactions.

A traceable communication system is a digital platform through which teachers, school employees, coaches, and volunteers communicate electronically with students. All digital communication with students must occur through these platforms. These are Hopkins County Schools’ approved traceable communications platforms:

  • ParentSquare / StudentSquare
  • HCS District Email Accounts with domain @hopkins.kyschools.us
  • Tools within Google Workspace for Education, including Google Classroom
  • Infinite Campus
  • GoGuardian
  • Blackboard, Starfish, and Outlook for students enrolled in dual credit courses with Madisonville Community College (KCTCS)

Waiver forms may be picked up at the HCS Central Office.
