Superintendent Smith Announces Retirement

Hopkins County Schools Superintendent Amy Smith announced at the January 13, 2025 Board of Education meeting that she will be retiring at the end of June. Superintendent Amy Smith

“It is a bittersweet time, but an exciting one as well,” Smith said. “Your support in my tenure has been much appreciated. Continue to ‘Remember Your Why’ and lean on one another. It is an honor to lead HCS and I am looking forward to the remainder of our year together.”

Smith’s resignation letter below shares many accomplishments Team Hopkins has achieved during her tenure.

The Board of Education will now take steps to move ahead with the search for a new superintendent. We will keep you updated on the district website.

 

 

 

January 13, 2025 Dear Board of Education Members and HCS Family, I have been honored to serve as Hopkins County Schools Superintendent for the past 3 undefined years! Education has long been my passion. Ever since I was a little girl, Iundefinedve known that I wanted to be a teacher. This is my 30th year in education, and I have served in my home district of Hopkins County Schools the entire time. Working with our students and staff has been very rewarding, however, I recognize that it is time for me to make a change. It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I will be retiring as superintendent, effective June 30, 2025. When I started in this role, our district was in the midst of transitioning back to in-person school during the pandemic. This brought challenges that we were determined to successfully tackle. My focus has been on undefinedRemember Your Why.undefined This theme has given the school community a reminder, both professionally and personally, to follow their purpose as a way of doing what is right and overcoming challenges. This puts undefinedhands and feetundefined to the continuing concept of TeamHopkins, both inside the district and throughout our community. Several initiatives have started during my leadership that will have a lasting impact on Hopkins County Schools. In collaboration with West Kentucky Educational Cooperative and community representatives, we developed a Strategic Plan for 2023-2028 focused on instructional excellence, talent management, and prioritization of systems and resources. The goals of this plan include the Hopkins County Future Ready - Characteristics of Successful Graduates initiative, which is the districtundefineds version of portrait of a graduate. Future Ready goals are embedded in daily instruction, showing our dedication to student success. Hopkins County Schools and our Future Ready initiative was recognized with the Kentucky Board of Educationundefineds Kevin C. Brown Strategic Priority Award early in 2024. I have continued to emphasize the importance of community cohesiveness while strengthening the culture of the district. One way we have done this is by bringing in mental health counselors as district employees that are based in each of our schools. With the help of grant funds, we were able to address student needs while investing in our youth. I am fully committed to assisting with the transition as the Board of Education moves forward with the process to select a new superintendent. I am thankful for the support shown by board members, district staff, parents, community members, and my family. Your contributions truly make a difference in Hopkins County Schools!
