Assessment
Assessment & Accountability
Kentucky's assessment and accountability systems provide information about how districts, schools, and the state are meeting the needs of Kentucky's diverse student population.
2024-2025 Accountability Results
The Kentucky Department of Education has released the 2024-2025 assessment and accountability results.
The state accountability system uses the Kentucky Summative Assessment and other tools to measure performance on six indicators: reading and math; science, social studies, and writing; English learner progress; quality of school climate/safety; postsecondary readiness; and graduation rate. Each indicator is evaluated on current year performance and change.
Ratings are reported using a color-coded system to communicate performance, from highest to lowest: Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red.
Here is a summary of Hopkins County Schools’ key results:
- Elementary Schools in our district received an overall rating of Yellow. The district scored above the state average in every area. The strong performance of Hanson Elementary resulted in a Blue rating with an overall score of 84.2. Three additional elementary schools - Grapevine, Southside, and West Hopkins - received Green ratings.
- Middle Schools in HCS improved their overall rating to Green. The district scored above the state average in every area. James Madison MS received the top overall score for HCS middle schools (75.4).
- High Schools showed improvement in both graduation rates and postsecondary readiness. The overall HS rating is Yellow. Madisonville North Hopkins received a rating of Green with an overall score of 74.9.
Highlights to Celebrate
- Postsecondary Readiness rates are up at both high schools, with Hopkins County Central (82.9) and MNHHS (97.2) showing substantial growth in preparing students for college and career opportunities. Graduation rates also continue to improve over the district, with a 97.1 rate at HCCHS and 97.7 at MNHHS.
- Several schools made significant gains in science, with strong improvement at MNHHS,
South Hopkins Middle, and West Hopkins Elementary. There was also growth in social studies scores at multiple schools, notably all of the middle schools. - Strong reading improvements were noted at Hanson Elementary, James Madison MS, and Southside Elementary. Scores reflected that several schools strengthened their writing performance, with strong gains at Southside and West Broadway Elementary.
- Several schools recorded positive progress in school climate and culture as measured by Quality of School Climate and Safety data. The largest increases were seen at HCCHS, MNHHS, South Hopkins, West Broadway, and West Hopkins Elementary.
Areas for Improvement
District teams are partnering with schools that experienced declines across multiple content areas. They are already working together to strengthen curriculum support and student engagement.
One area of focus is Hopkins County Central being identified by KSA results as needing Targeted Support and Improvement for students with disabilities.
Math declines in six buildings highlight the need for continued work in math intervention and foundational skills. Social studies results decreased in a handful of schools, signaling an opportunity to strengthen content knowledge and literacy strategies.
Also,a writing professional development session that prioritizes consistent writing expectations across grade levels has already been scheduled in response to score drops at a few schools.
Statement from Superintendent Dr. Damon Fleming: “Our focus has been clear: strengthen learning, support our staff, and give every student the opportunity to grow. The gains we are seeing in readiness, graduation, reading, science, and school climate show that our plan is taking hold. I am proud of the hard work happening across Hopkins County and the steady progress in so many of our schools. We also recognize where improvement is needed, and we are already moving with purpose to address those areas. This report affirms the direction we are heading and reinforces what we believe as a district. Great futures start here, and we are committed to making that true for every student we serve.”
